Two co‑chairs of the Resident Advisory Committee reported to the Board of County Commissioners that the committee unanimously supported the proposed 1A budget recommendations and offered suggestions for public outreach and transparency.
Janet Beckerwold and Andrew Lancy summarized the committee’s months‑long work: orientation on county budgeting, review of departmental packages and follow‑up discussions with commissioners and staff. RAC members identified four dominant themes in recommended allocations: affordable housing and rent assistance, public safety, core infrastructure, and public/behavioral health services for older adults and children.
Committee members praised county staff for transparent materials and detailed line‑item presentations that made it possible for a lay advisory body to review options. RAC members suggested community outreach approaches — posting information in libraries and recreation centers, using local magazines and signage at project sites noting 1A funding — and expressed willingness to participate in outreach in their neighborhoods.
Commissioners thanked the RAC members, noted the committee had helped clarify how property tax dollars are distributed across jurisdictions and emphasized the need to translate committee recommendations into a rollout plan. Staff said the RAC will reconvene in January and that staff will incorporate RAC feedback into communications before broader public outreach.
