Public Works committee OKs schedule changes for Nichols Road design contract

The City of Monona Public Works Committee on Feb. 4 approved a date-only amendment to the Strand Associates design-services contract for Nichols Road improvements.
Staff said the plan specifications and estimate originally were due Nov. 1, 2025, and the amendment moves that date to Nov. 1, 2028; the design finish date changes from Dec. 31, 2025, to Dec. 29, 2028. Construction is tentatively scheduled for 2029. Staff attributed the scheduling change to a mayoral request and said the project is partially federally funded and will require coordination with the metropolitan planning organization to shift funding dates.
Committee members asked whether the change affects cost; staff said there is "no change in cost" to the contract despite the three-year delay. Following brief discussion, the committee voted to approve the amended contract by voice vote with no opposition.
The amendment covers schedule updates only; staff said project bids remain part of the regular procurement cycle and construction timing is expected to be clarified as funding and bidding proceed.
