The Village Council accepted a Bronze Bicycle Friendly Community designation from the League of American Bicyclists.
League representative noted Wellington’s bike programs — bike rack requests, maintenance stations, an educational bike rodeo and events — and said the award recognizes communities working to improve mobility, sustainability and safety for cyclists. The League noted that Florida has 22 designated bicycle friendly communities and that Wellington’s designation places it among communities pursuing higher (silver, gold) recognition.
The council recognized a local business, formerly Wheels of Wellington now CycleFit, for its role supporting bicycling programs and community rides. Council members thanked staff and advocates and said they will continue pursuing improvements that could lead to a higher award level in future years.
