After convening in closed session, the Tazewell County Board of Supervisors returned to public session and took several personnel and administrative actions.
Speaker 3 moved to reappoint Richard Smith to the Tazewell County Public Service Authority; Speaker 4 seconded and the board approved the reappointment by voice vote.
Based on executive-session discussions, Speaker 2 proposed a six-month extension of a Convenience Area rental site with Barnes and Linda Kidd at $600 per month beginning Jan. 1 and ending June 30. The board voted to approve the short extension.
Speaker 4 moved that the county administrator be authorized to enter negotiations with both candidates interviewed for the county attorney position; Speaker 3 seconded and the motion passed, authorizing staff to negotiate with the finalists.
Speaker 1 conducted a roll call earlier and announced attendance; Speaker 2 asked that the minutes reflect Supervisor Curry joined the executive session and left before it ended. The meeting was later adjourned to Jan. 13, 2026.
Next steps: the county administrator will proceed with negotiations for the county attorney position and the administration will implement the rental-site extension and the PSA reappointment.
