Utah County commissioners approved a sponsorship agreement Dec. 17 with Spanish Fork City for the Spanish Fork Competition Pool after asking staff to narrow county responsibilities and expand resident eligibility.
A commissioner asked that the county's role be limited to construction and debt service, removing operations and maintenance obligations from the contract. Commissioners also requested adding ZIP code 84651 to the list of non-city county residents eligible for the county-based benefit, to ensure West Mountain and nearby unincorporated residents are included while excluding Payson city residents.
Staff confirmed the county would not assume ongoing operations under the revised wording and noted a concession in the agreement: county residents would receive 20% off memberships, and county employees would receive the same discount.
After clarifying language and geographic eligibility, commissioners moved and unanimously approved the agreement (regular item 12).
