City staff told the West Valley City Council on March 25 that the city holds first right of refusal on a 2.04-acre parcel off 2200 West and would need to match $950,000 to buy it. "You can see in the yellow, it's about 2.04 acres that we have first right of refusal on," the presenter said while outlining options for the site.
The presenter said staff hopes the site could either replace Fire Station 75 or be used as a park. Council members asked clarifying questions about adjacent parcels and whether notices or additional analysis were needed; staff noted the parcel is contiguous with other city-owned lands on the east and south and that one of the parcels contains houses that are not part of the first-refusal group.
No decisions were made. Staff framed the purchase as a time-limited opportunity that requires a matching payment; council members did not object to further study and directed staff to provide more detailed background information to assist a future decision.
The matter was introduced as an added agenda item and will be scheduled for follow-up so council can consider fiscal impact and potential programming for the property.
