City planning staff told the council at the Jan. 14 study meeting they plan to apply for the Wasatch Front Regional Council Transportation and Land Use Connection (TLUC) grant for $260,000 to fund a full update to West Valley City’s general plan.
Steve Pastrick described the application and said the requested funds would support a ground‑up rewrite of the general plan, emphasizing transportation and land use as core components. “We’re actually applying for $260,000 to do a comprehensive update of our general plans,” Pastrick said. He added that the city match would be $40,000 and that the mayor would be authorized to sign a letter of support if the council approves the application.
Council members said the comp plan update is likely to be a top budget priority regardless of grant success. One councilmember urged more discussion about the comprehensive plan during the upcoming budget retreat and said the plan will guide growth and design choices for the next 20 years.
The study meeting discussion was preparatory; the council was asked to authorize a mayoral letter of support and related documents if the application is submitted. No final grant award was decided at the study meeting.
