Committee approves $300,000 capital outlay grant for Cerro Gordo Bridge replacement

The City of Santa Fe Public Works & Utilities Committee on Feb. 16 approved a capital outlay grant agreement with the New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration for $300,000 to complete replacement of the Cerro Gordo Bridge (item 7e). The grant carries a reversion date of April 11, 2027.
Marcos Esquivel presented the item and described the project history: AECOM completed coring and determined the bridge concrete was not in good enough condition for a rehabilitation, prompting a superstructure replacement design. Esquivel said the total project — design and construction — is estimated at about $1.15 million. He told the committee the city hopes to start construction this year if engineering and contracting schedules permit.
Esquivel said closures will be necessary and that early neighborhood notification will be part of the project design process. “We will coordinate that, and we are gonna do an early neighborhood notification at percent design,” Esquivel said, noting the Cerro Gordo corridor has limited alternate routes and closures will have a significant impact on the area.
Councilor Figale/Fagali asked whether the $300,000 is the whole amount; Esquivel replied the $300,000 is a capital outlay grant contribution and that the entire project was estimated at about $1,150,000 for design and construction. Councilor Figale/Fagali also asked whether the reversion date of April 11, 2027 provides sufficient time; staff said they expect that timeline to be sufficient but cautioned that contracting and outside dependencies can affect schedules.
The committee moved and seconded approval; a roll-call vote recorded Chair Chavez and Councilors Barrett, Bustamante and Figale/Fagali voting yes. The motion passed.
The committee did not identify additional staff matters and adjourned. Neighborhood notification and design coordination will follow as staff advances final engineering and scheduling.
