Newark planning staff announces new deputy economic development director and hires for housing work

At the Aug. 13 meeting the Newark Community Development Director Stephen Turner told the planning commission that Angela Sui started yesterday as the city’s new deputy economic development director. Turner said the city is recruiting for an assistant/associate planner to support front-counter duties and conditional‑use reviews, and for an affordable housing policy and programs manager to help implement the housing element’s programs.
Turner said staff has prepared proposals and solicited firms to help manage for‑sale affordable units the city expects to administer and hopes to have an approach in place in the next six months. He also told the commission staff expects a busy fall with multiple projects and policy items coming before the commission as the city works to fulfill its community development work plan.
