Dunn County to consider seasonal weight limits and joins call for long-term highway funding

Dunn County will consider a pair of highway-related items at its Feb. 18 meeting: an ordinance amending Chapter 12.11 on seasonal weight limits for certain county highways and a resolution asking the state legislature to pursue sustainable long-term highway funding.
“Each year as the weather gets warmer and the ground gets softer, the county implements weight restrictions on some county highways,” Dunn County Manager Dan Dunbar said, explaining the purpose of the proposed ordinance. “When the ground is soft, driving heavy loads over the roads has a major impact of the life of those roads.” The ordinance aims to codify common county practice and clarify rules for seasonal weight limits.
Dunbar also described a resolution that asks the legislature to find a sustainable solution for highway funding, noting that state funding has at times relied on one-time infusions of general purpose revenue (GPR). He said a similar resolution or something close to it is expected to be passed by all 72 Wisconsin counties.
