Keith County board instructs clerk to deny late county-burial bill and invite appeal from funeral home

Several commissioners said the bill appears to be more than a year old and recommended denial unless the funeral home can show why the county is responsible and why the claim was submitted late.
The board directed the clerk to send a letter denying payment on the grounds of the late submission and to invite the funeral home to request an agenda slot to explain the circumstances and appeal the denial. Commissioners noted that county policy includes a dollar limit on burial payments and that the clerk will follow up by checking the statute and consulting with county legal staff as needed.
No final payment was authorized; the clerk will prepare the denial letter and set an option for the funeral home to present evidence or ask the board to reconsider.
