Highway superintendent urges updated county property schedules ahead of NERMA renewal

At the start of the county’s insurance-renewal season, Highway Superintendent Thomas Wilbur asked departments to review and update their property schedules for the NERMA renewal process.
"I just don't think that $6,000,000 would replace everything in this courthouse if this thing were to be decimated," Thomas Wilbur said, urging commissioners to re-evaluate building and contents valuations. He flagged that courthouse contents are currently insured for $1,000,000 and said departments should verify items such as signage, trailers, repeaters and remote equipment that may not be fully captured on recent schedules. "I've heard back from a few. I'm gonna reach back out today until the third to get this submitted back to NERMA," Wilbur said.
Commissioners and department heads noted some items already listed under other custodians (for example, towers and generators under communications) and requested a brief follow-up process. Board members asked staff to confirm whether senior-center equipment is double insured and whether the EOC (emergency operations center) space is included under sheriff/jail listings.
Action requested: department heads to return corrected schedules ahead of the Dec. 3 submission and to document mobile/remote assets (towers, repeaters, trailers, signage) for inclusion in the county's renewal packet.
Next steps: Highway Superintendent Wilbur will consolidate responses and follow up with NERMA; the board left the item on the agenda for the next meeting to finalize any valuation changes.
