Nevada R-V board directs staff to research a used propane bus under $90,000

The Nevada R-V School District Board on Feb. 16 asked staff to develop a more detailed proposal for acquiring a used propane bus estimated at about $90,000, including fleet mileage, potential vehicle disposition, and funding sources.
Speaker 2 described preliminary research indicating the district could acquire a quality used propane bus for under $90,000; new buses, Speaker 2 said, currently list between $155,000 and $170,000. The presentation noted propane buses have performed well in winter conditions and that funding could come from the district vehicle allotment combined with Pebble reserves. "He believes the research ... that he can get a quality bus for less than 90 or thereabout," Speaker 2 said.
Board members asked whether a newly purchased bus would replace an existing vehicle and how the district handles sales of retired vehicles; staff said retired buses are posted for sale but do not typically bring much revenue. Speaker 2 said staff will supply a full fleet list with accurate mileages and recommended options for which vehicles could be removed from service if a purchase proceeds.
The board did not take a binding vote to purchase; it asked staff to pull numbers and return with a purchase recommendation for a future meeting.
