Westminster council adopts resolution opposing California Proposition 50 after heated debate

Public commenters and some councilmembers criticized placing a statewide, partisan ballot measure on the city agenda. Vice Mayor Monzo and others urged council focus on municipal services and local priorities. Supporters said the change would have downstream effects on local representation and federal/state funding alignment and that the city should voice concern.
After extended remarks and public comment, council adopted the resolution opposing Prop 50 by a 4-1 vote. The resolution will be transmitted to appropriate state officials as the council directed.
