Alice council rezones 10 Buffalo Street from R-1 to B-1

The City of Alice council opened a public hearing Feb. 17 on a request to rezone 10 Buffalo Street (North Hilltop Addition, north 70 feet of Lot 17, Block 4) from R-1 residential to B-1 business.
City staff described the location as at the corner of Buffalo and South Texas Boulevard across from an existing car wash and said the request previously received approval from the planning and zoning commission. Staff explained that the rezoning is the initial regulatory step and that building permits and other required permits must still be obtained before construction begins.
No members of the public came forward to speak during the hearing. After closing the hearing, a council member moved to adopt the ordinance to rezone the property; a second was recorded and the motion passed by voice vote.
The ordinance changes the zoning designation for the specified lot to B-1 business. Staff noted that the developer will still need to secure permits and comply with building and land-use requirements before starting construction.
