Board approves OHSAA membership, two trips and personnel actions; moves to executive session

The Mount Vernon City Schools Board of Education approved a set of routine and programmatic items on Feb. 13, including a resolution to join the Ohio High School Athletic Association and approvals for student trips and personnel actions.
Membership in OHSAA: Superintendent presented Resolution 2526 authorizing district membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association. "I would entertain a motion for the membership into the OHSAA," the chair said. Board member Mister Ward moved the resolution and Mister Workman seconded; a roll-call vote followed and named members responded in the affirmative; the chair announced, "Motion carried." The board thus authorized OHSAA membership.
Trips and curriculum items: The board considered three student trips. Trustees identified missing cost information for trip #3 and an incorrect year in the documentation for another trip (2028 listed instead of 2027). The motion was amended to approve trips 1 and 2 and defer trip 3 to the March meeting; the amended motion passed on roll call.
Personnel items: The board approved certificated staff actions, including retirements (Kathy Casler and Tony Williams) and other routine hires and resignations. Classified staff transfers and appointments were also approved by vote.
Executive session: Later in the meeting, the board moved to enter executive session for the appointment, dismissal, discipline, promotion or compensation of an employee or official; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call, and the board prepared to move into closed session.
What this means: The OHSAA membership clears the district to participate in association-governed athletics; the approved trips and personnel actions are routine board business. Board members asked for corrected trip cost information and the district will return with item 3 in March.
