JASPER CITY — The Jasper City Council approved multiple consent items including a special-event permit for the Bridal Bluegrass and Barbecue, a contract award for dual wall polyethylene and a resolution declaring certain city property surplus and setting an auction opening date.
Staff member Kelly presented the event permit for a Saturday, April 4 event hosted by The Cigar Box at 411 19th Street West. The request included a street closure on 19th Street from 4th Avenue to 5th Avenue, with set-up beginning at 11 a.m. and teardown by 9 p.m.; police, fire and streets divisions had signed off and the council approved the permit by voice vote.
Jessica briefed the council on procurement for a dual wall polyethylene contract, saying two bids were received — from Adco Pipe and Supply and from J and G Culverts — and recommended awarding the contract to J and G Culverts as the lowest responsible bidder. "I do recommend we award this contract to J and G Culverts, who was the lowest responsible bidder overall," Jessica said. The council approved the contract award.
Jessica also presented a list of used vehicles, equipment and furniture proposed as surplus and asked the council to adopt a resolution to declare the items surplus so they may be auctioned; an opening date of March 13 was cited. The resolution was adopted unanimously.
What happens next: Event organizers will acquire a special-event business license and the street-closure plan will be implemented in coordination with city departments; the surplus items will be posted for auction with the stated opening date.
