City earmarks about $3.7M for second fire station; site study to recommend locations

Mayor Pete told attendees the city council recently appropriated about $3,700,000 toward a second fire station to address service needs created by growth; he said the station will serve both city and Center Township areas and that township trustees are partnering on funding.
"We hired a company through the Fire Chiefs Association because we want to make sure we put it in the right location," the mayor said, noting the firm will analyze past and present calls, projected growth and offer two to three recommended sites within four to six months.
Separately, the mayor said city staff and the board of works are developing plans for a multiuse police training facility to host in-house firearms and defensive-tactics instruction and to support outside agencies. He said a longtime local company has expressed interest in partnering on the police project.
Mayor Pete said he will provide updates as the studies and planning progress.
