County finance staff discussed the statewide Georgia Government Finance Officers Association initiative and read a proclamation asking residents and organizations to join in recognizing public finance professionals. The finance representative noted the county’s long record of clean audit findings and said the proclamation would be accompanied by a toolkit and small gifts from the state association.
Separately during commissioner comments, a commissioner remembered Terrence Gore, a Jones County native and major-league baseball player, urged signage honoring him at county entrances and announced a memorial service at Jones County High School gym. The board extended condolences and acknowledged Gore’s local recognition on the high-school baseball field honor wall.
What’s next: The proclamation was approved by voice vote. County staff said they would look into flag placement and the suggested signage honoring the late athlete.
