Hudsonville commissioners voted Sept. 9 to award a contract to Van Belkom Inc. (quote CH001209V2) for park facility security and programmable lock installations not to exceed $46,000. The motion was moved, seconded and approved by roll call.
Staff described the system as programmable and controllable from internet-enabled devices or desktop computers, with scheduling features (auto-unlock at preset times and auto-lock at closing) and mechanical or sensor fail-safes so occupants cannot be trapped. The system includes AC power with battery backup. Staff said installations are expected this fall.
Supporters said the upgrades will improve rental and custodial operations at commons buildings and reduce petty vandalism; Nolan Petruillio was credited in staff remarks as leading the procurement effort. No commissioner opposed the motion.
