Hudsonville commission OKs DPW pickup purchase to replace aging fleet

The Hudsonville City Commission approved a motion Sept. 9 authorizing the Department of Public Works to purchase a Chevrolet Silverado pickup to replace an aging unit in the city's fleet. The purchase was moved, supported and approved by roll call.
Public Works staff explained the fleet rotation and said the city currently operates roughly 10 pickup trucks (not counting dump trucks and heavy equipment) on an approximate 18-year service rotation. Staff said the existing older vehicle would likely be retained for up to an additional year before being sent to auction, to help the department manage workload and staffing changes.
Mayor Mark Northrup and commissioners voiced support; no member voted against the motion. The commission did not set additional conditions beyond usual procurement compliance and acceptance following inspection.
