Local PAC schedules candidate meet-and-greet, urges voter turnout

Hannah Martin, speaking during the public-comment period at the Hudsonville City Commission meeting on Sept. 9, said a local public action committee (GAC) will host a nonpartisan candidate meet-and-greet at Sunrise Park Pavilion on Sept. 22 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. She said the group has invited those running for the Hudsonville City Commission, will publish candidate questionnaires on its Facebook page and will leave printed flyers with candidates.
"You have the right to vote," Martin said, urging residents to meet candidates and read their responses before voting. Mayor Mark Northrup thanked the group for promoting civic participation, saying: "Democracy doesn't work unless we have people like you in the community that take an interest in our elected officials and our processes."
The commission did not take any formal action on the announcement. The event is scheduled for Sept. 22 and is intended as an informational forum; Martin said the group will remain nonpartisan and not endorse candidates.
