Council signs on to Keep Columbus Beautiful's 'Greatest American Cleanup' pledge

Oseguera said the national Keep America Beautiful initiative challenges communities and individuals to pick up litter as part of the nation's 250th-anniversary activities and that the local effort would not require city funding. She described an honor-system metric: individuals who collect 250 pieces of litter would scan a QR code, sign a community banner at the local library and be counted as participants. "We here in Columbus would love to support this mission," she said.
Council members asked about logistics and reporting. Oseguera said she planned to apply for grants to cover supplies and would coordinate with city departments and local organizations to promote events. A council member moved that the mayor put his signature on the pledge; the motion passed by voice vote.
What's next: staff and Keep Columbus Beautiful volunteers will coordinate publicity, volunteer recruitment and any grant applications; the council's signature signals municipal support for the campaign.
