County approves $100,000 from opioid funds for Fairview Housing recovery beds

"We have architectural plans; it's been approved by the city," the presenter said, adding that the facility must ensure detoxed patients can be accepted and that regional referral patterns and limited detox capacity had previously forced patients out of the area.
Board members asked about capacity and regional support; Mr. Garrett said Washington County had provided strong local support and that neighboring counties (e.g., Smyth, Tazewell, Wise) were being solicited or have provided commitments in varying degrees. Staff reported that after approving the $100,000 transfer, the county's opioid fund balance would fall to about $187,360.
The motion, made by a supervisor and seconded, passed unanimously. The board discussed the program's regional benefits and urged officials to continue working with neighboring localities to secure matching or supporting funds.
