Local nonprofits outline services and funding requests to Warren County board

Several local nonprofits used the board presentation time on Feb. 3 to describe services, capacity and funding needs.
Avery Harper, executive director of Phoenix Project, said the agency provided thousands of nights of emergency shelter and thousands of hotline and service contacts since opening in 2014. Harper emphasized the local return on investment and asked the board for $15,000 in county funding while noting historical county funding had been $7,000 in the last fiscal year.
Vicky Davies of Saint Luke Community Clinic outlined medical and dental services for adults, reported growing dental demand and said the clinic needs equipment replacement (autoclave, overhead lights, filtration) and dental supplies; she cited equipment cost estimates in the thousands of dollars.
Representatives from Northwestern Community Services summarized regional behavioral-health services, prevention programs (including 988 and community trainings) and the Warren County Recovery Court; Northwestern said it was not requesting additional county funding at this time.
Krista Shiflett of the Warren Coalition described new and ongoing initiatives (SAVE for youth, Project Boost for homeless adults with children, Colby's House recovery residences, Halo Read literacy outreach) and requested modest additional support for postage and enrollment costs after reporting growth in Dolly Parton's Imagination Library enrollment.
Board members thanked the groups and asked staff to integrate funding requests into the budget process and follow up with any clarifying financial documentation.
