VDOT reports snow response, Rocky Hollow rehab delays and safety work on Shenandoah Shores access

A Virginia Department of Transportation representative briefed the Warren County Board of Supervisors on maintenance operations and upcoming projects during the Feb. 3 meeting.
VDOT introduced new district staff and said crews focused January on snow response, tree trimming and shoulder repairs across secondary routes. The agency reported the Rocky Hollow Road flood-rehab project started but afterward encountered environmental issues and freezing conditions that forced contractors off site; crews will resume when weather permits.
On Shenandoah Shores emergency access, VDOT said the project is advancing through review and that staff recommended lowering the non-posted speed limit on Milldale to 45 mph to Route 50 and lowering the non-posted speed limit on Ashton Station Road to 35 mph. VDOT also described adding signage and addressing shoulder reinforcement where feasible.
Board members discussed the South Street project (a town-led safety and signal relocation plan) and potential future rumble-strip work; VDOT said project scheduling could put certain turn-lane elements in 2027. The agency acknowledged constraints on line painting and pavement work while temperatures remain low.
VDOT asked the board to submit secondary-road priorities ahead of the county’s six-year plan work session so staff can include them in the upcoming advertisement and funding cycle.
