Kalamazoo City announced the third round of community engagement for its 2035 strategic vision and the related master plan update, and said it will hold 15 neighborhood meetings between mid‑January and early April and make materials available online at kalamazoocity.org/ik2030five.
According to a city presentation, the neighborhood discussions will focus on transportation and land use and will feed into the 2035 update that city staff said will help shape department work plans and budget requests over the next decade. "Your feedback is critical at these neighborhood design and meetings," an unidentified speaker said during the presentation.
City representatives said the outreach effort began in 2024 and included two previous rounds of public conversations in 2024 and 2025. The presentation described a mix of engagement methods used in earlier rounds: large public meetings, smaller meetings, focus groups and one‑on‑one conversations. Those inputs were compiled into the 2035 strategic‑vision update and will inform the forthcoming master plan, which officials described as a citywide document focused primarily on transportation and land use.
The city framed the neighborhood series as an opportunity for people who live, work or spend time in each area to "dive in deep" on what exists today in their neighborhoods, what is missing and how residents would like those places to look by 2035. The presentation identified transportation, sidewalks, housing and other elements of the built environment as topics that will be used to shape departmental priorities and budget requests over a 10‑year horizon.
For those unable to attend in person, the city said meeting content has been recreated online at kalamazoocity.org/ik2030five, where residents can review materials and submit feedback. The presentation concluded by encouraging community input and noting the city will use the feedback to inform the master plan update and related budget planning.
