Board approves conditional use permit for private camping at 1020 Misty Meadow Lane

The Warren County Board of Supervisors approved a conditional use permit for private, noncommercial camping at 1020 Misty Meadow Lane in the Massanutten View subdivision.

Planning staff explained the application and recommended conditions including compliance with Warren County Health Department requirements, neat storage and removal of materials when not in use, required building and zoning permits for structures in the special flood hazard area, and posting the lot parcel number with an emergency egress plan for removal of recreational vehicles and portable commodes prior to any predicted flood event. Staff noted the Planning Commission had forwarded the application to the Board of Supervisors with a 5–0 recommendation.

Applicant John Ellis said he and his family have owned the property since April 1999, have used it for intermittent family camping and were working to address prior complaints about site neatness. “We’re just trying to be in compliance with all the requirements,” Ellis said.

After the public hearing closed with no additional speakers, a supervisor moved to approve the permit with the recommended conditions. A roll call recorded Aye votes from Supervisors Cullors, Stanmeyer, Jamieson and Henry; the board approved the conditional use permit as presented.
