Commission approves community center partition and pool UV replacements

The Lapeer City Commission approved two facility maintenance contracts on Feb. 17: a quote with Ray Haven Group to replace community center bathroom and locker-room partitions for an amount not to exceed $29,145, and a contract with Barozini Aquatics to replace the community center pool's UV system for an amount not to exceed $42,000.
Parks staff said the partition base bid excludes accessories such as toilet-paper dispensers and some grab bars, which staff may reuse or buy separately under existing budget thresholds. Commissioners asked about bid dates and whether quotes remain valid; staff said vendors had reconfirmed pricing recently and that staff would secure written extensions when possible.
Regarding the pool UV system, staff said the quoted, newer UV system is more efficient, requires less frequent rebuilds and lamp changes than the city's older system, and that typical rebuild intervals for the quoted unit are around four to six years. Parks staff said prior UV systems required chamber rebuilds every two years and annual lamp changes, with associated costs.
Both motions passed by roll-call votes. Staff will finalize agreements and schedule the work while monitoring vendor warranty and future replacement-cycle costs.
