Assessor reports heavy board-review docket, office renovation plans and a printer request for 2027 budget

LaSalle County Assessor Abby Craft told the Taxes, Election & GIS committee on Feb. 17 that the assessor’s office is managing a heavy board-review docket and planning office improvements.
Craft said the board-review process has processed more than 223 change notices, 24 assessor clerical corrections and 323 taxpayer complaint appeals; to date the office has processed 570 dockets with 104 hearings scheduled through March 4. She said the board review will close no later than March 10 for the 2025 tax year, after which the office will begin processing certificates of error (limited to clerical errors) and continue through the judgment-day period anticipated in October and November.
Craft said she is collaborating with facilities staff to reconfigure the front counter to improve public accessibility and will present material samples and a full 2027 budget estimate for work on workstations and cubicles. She also requested inclusion of a new printer in the 2027 budget to replace an aging HP unit; IT recommended replacement rather than repair, and the assessor’s office provided a replacement estimate and a 5-year extended warranty cost.
The committee approved the assessor’s report and her request will be considered during future budget planning.
