Greene County commissioners approve proclamation for National FFA Week and accept $40,000 cybersecurity grant

The Greene County Board of Commissioners approved a proclamation recognizing National FFA Week and accepted a cybersecurity grant at a regular meeting where the board also authorized advertising unpaid property-tax liens.
Olivia Heck, who introduced herself as “Green Central FSA’s president,” presented achievements and activities of the local FFA chapter and requested a county proclamation. The board moved and voted unanimously to designate the week in February 2026 as National FFA Week.
The proclamation, read by the presiding official, credited FFA and agricultural education with promoting leadership and preparing students for careers in agriculture and natural-resources fields. “I would like to inform and update the board and community of the activities and accomplishments our FFA chapter,” Heck said as she outlined contests, community-service projects and upcoming events.
In a separate action, the board approved a collection report authorizing the advertising of unpaid real-property taxes. The presenter reported that, “As of 01/31/2026, the amount of unpaid taxes on real property was $672,128.74.” The board also set dates for the Board of Equalization and Review to convene on April 20, 2026, with a journal on May 4, 2026.
County Manager reported that Greene County was awarded a competitive cybersecurity grant from North Carolina Emergency Management and said the award amount was “I believe it’s $40,000.” The board voted to accept the grant and directed staff to administer the funds.
Commissioners also recognized Cathy Warren on her announced retirement as deputy clerk at the end of the month and thanked her for roughly 11½ years of service.
Before closing, the board moved to enter closed session to discuss facility and personnel matters, citing the statutory provision read on the record. The motion to go into closed session carried, and the board adjourned after the closed-session motion was approved.
