Boynton Beach proclaims 211 Awareness Month, recognizes Lord's Place march; Boca Raton Bowl thanks city

The City Commission opened its Feb. 17 meeting with two proclamations and a short presentation from the Boca Raton Bowl.
Mayor Rebecca Shelton read a proclamation declaring February 2026 as 211 Awareness Month. Elizabeth Burrows, director of development and community relations for 2‑1‑1 Palm Beach and Treasure Coast, accepted the proclamation and said the regional service answered roughly 48,000 Palm Beach County requests last year and about 1,200 calls were for suicide‑related concerns.
The commission also proclaimed Feb. 27, 2026 as the Lord’s Place March to End Homelessness Awareness Day. John Gilman, director of men’s services at the Lord’s Place, accepted and thanked the commission; he said the organization’s shelter in Boynton Beach houses more than 50 men and provides reentry and recovery services.
Earlier in the meeting, Boca Raton Bowl representatives thanked the city for lodging and hospitality during bowl week, presented logoed footballs and promotional items, and posed for a photograph with commissioners. The bowl representatives said the city’s support during practice and game week made a difference for the visiting team.
