ARB approves front-porch, roof and siding changes for Sherwood Craft property

The South Russell Village Architectural Review Board approved proposed front-porch, roof and siding changes for a house presented by David Janssen of Hanson Architects on Feb. 17.
Janssen described an approach to improve curb appeal by removing portions of the existing roof ends and extending a new roof over a new 6-foot-deep porch set within the garage pocket. He said the project would replace the house's aluminum siding with new five-inch white vinyl siding and install a brick veneer base and columns at the porch to match the house. "The intent is...to create kind of a Dutch colonial gambrel," Janssen said, describing the roof and dormer adjustments to address leaks and improve composition.
Board members said the solution appeared appropriate for the neighborhood and moved to approve. The motion passed unanimously with "Aye" votes. The approval covers exterior design and materials as presented; any building permits or inspections required to execute the work remain the applicant's responsibility.
The board's vote completes ARB review for this proposal; the owners will pursue standard municipal permitting as needed.
