Council hears community updates: MediView task force, child-wellbeing report, school TISA funds and MeadowView events

Alderman Baker raised concern about a Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth report that ranked Sullivan County low in family and community well-being and cited poverty statistics: "1 in 5 children in Tennessee is in poverty. And in Kingsport, that's 1 in 3," Baker said. He also noted Kingsport City Schools will receive one-time funding through the Tennessee Investment in Student Achievement (TISA) formula after more than half of the district's schools earned strong letter grades.
Other updates: Visit Kingsport reported collegiate swimming competitions and small-college basketball at MeadowView are driving hotel stays and tourism; the mayor thanked community members volunteering for a museum task force led by Jeff Fleming and recognized staff member Rebecca on her last night with the council.
Next steps: Council indicated the items would be discussed further at upcoming work sessions and that staff will follow up where additional analysis or action is warranted.
