The board considered nominations for the North Carolina School Boards Association legislative committee and elected a district nominee by written ballot.
During discussion, several board members urged creating a district-wide conversation to set shared legislative priorities and to use responses to NCSBAs annual survey as a basis for a board-level policy conversation.
Board members nominated candidates from the floor, conducted a written ballot as used for chair and vice chair, and the tally showed three votes for Mr. Atherton and four votes for Ms. Hauser. The board then moved and approved forwarding Ms. Hausers name to the NCSBA as the district nominee.
Board members suggested using the nomination process as an opportunity to develop shared legislative priorities at a future retreat or board meeting.
