ADR supports Padel court at 160 Lagunitas with screening and noise provisions

The Advisory Design Review group agreed to forward a recommendation to the town council supporting a proposed Padel court at 160 Lagunitas Road, subject to screening and noise-management expectations.
Staff introduced the proposal for a 66-by-33-foot Padel court sited in the front yard and set 25 feet from the front and side setbacks. Applicant Steven Sutro described the surface as artificial turf over a permeable base, not an impervious surface, and said the sport’s glass walls are part of play. "We conclude to the best of our ability ... that'll be less than the 55 decibels at the property lines," Sutro said, summarizing acoustic measurements his team used; he also committed to adding sound barriers if monitoring later shows exceedances.
Landscape architect Eric Blasen presented a planting plan to screen the court from the street and neighbors: close-spaced bay-laurel (Laurus nobilis) in 36-inch boxes expected to present ~12-foot-tall screening initially, with plantings touching so gaps are avoided. ADR members asked about grading and glass configuration; staff and the applicant said the site sits about 5 feet below road level and that hedging plus a low seat wall will limit views from the street.
Several ADR members cited the court’s permeable surface, heavy screening and lack of night lighting as reasons to support the proposal. One member noted similar nearby recreational uses and said the site-specific solution is visually well-contained. The ADR recorded unanimous support (three of three) and staff will include the ADR recommendation and the applicant’s acoustic data when the council considers the design review.
