Staff to draft zoning use for event venues; commission to review draft next meeting

Westmoreland County planning staff said it will prepare a draft zoning ordinance amendment to create a distinct use category for event venues, including weddings, family reunions and similar gatherings.
At the Aug. 25 work session, staff said the initiative was staff-driven in response to growing interest from residents and business applicants and that a draft document would be provided to commissioners for initial review. "This is something that we initiated because we've gotten some people in the last year or so that are interested in doing this...and we don't really have a use that suits it very well," staff said.
Commissioners and staff agreed to review the draft at the next meeting. No public comments or formal changes to the ordinance were recorded in the work-session transcript; staff said they would bring the draft to the commission next week for discussion.
