Hudsonville fire chief reports 86% EMS compliance, two firefighter departures and cadet academy plans

Fire Chief Essenberg told the commission the department responded to 52 calls in November and the year-to-date total stands at 679, roughly on pace with last year. He said a late EMEA report attached to the packet shows 86% compliance, below the department's preferred performance in the 90s; staff will monitor response times and consult the vendor for possible causes.
Essenberg said Georgetown Township is shifting how it delivers EMS and is moving to full-time fire staffing, which will change transport responsibilities in the area. He also reported two firefighters, Michelle and Christian Converse, each with about eight years of service, have left the department. The chief said one cadet is lined up to enter the academy in January and staff continues to recruit additional applicants.
The commission also discussed traffic enforcement and e-bikes on trails; Mayor Northrup said he had forwarded traffic-control concerns to the sheriff and asked staff to coordinate on enforcement strategies.
