Hudsonville wins MDOT resurfacing grant; Berry Street project earns engineering award

Hudsonville city staff told the commission that the city received a MDOT TEDF/CATF grant to resurface Balsam Drive from Hook Street to the north city limits. The engineering estimate for the project is $334,000, with $267,200 awarded as grant funding and a $66,800 local match. The manager said the project is appropriated in fiscal year 2027.
Separately, the city manager announced the Berry Street realignment project was chosen by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Michigan for an engineering award, which staff characterized as one of the state's top recognitions for innovation and complexity in public works projects. City staff credited long-term planning, city engineer Donna Vries and Bob Miller's work on the application.
Staff said more details about timing and limits of the resurfacing project will be clarified after further coordination with the city engineer and noted the appropriation in FY2027 leaves time to align the project with adjacent heavy-equipment activity at Rush Creek.
