Board tables Eddie Ramirez’s request to rezone 6.1 acres on Lee Highway pending planning commission review

Eddie Ramirez appeared before the Washington County Board of Supervisors to request rezoning of approximately 6.106 acres on Lee Highway from A2 (agricultural) to B2 (business). The applicant described plans for small contractor garage units intended to help entrepreneurs start local businesses and said the site has sewer and water capacity.
Mr. Richardson presented the split-zoned parcel and noted the planning commission had not yet made a recommendation. Ramirez told the board he now employs more than 25 people and said creating small, affordable commercial bays would support contractor growth: "Somebody can come in there, start a lawn care business…" Several residents and business owners spoke in support, noting a local need for smaller commercial spaces.
Board members debated whether to act before the planning commission’s review. A motion to table the rezoning until the board’s meeting following the planning commission (scheduled for Feb 23/24) was made, seconded and carried (motion recorded as carried 6-0). The rezoning request will return to the board after the planning commission provides its recommendation.
No rezoning was approved at the meeting; the board took no final substantive vote on the merits.
