At the start of the Finance & Administration Committee meeting on Feb. 17, 2026, an unidentified councilmember (Unidentified Speaker S5) requested two minutes of privilege to propose adding an item to reconsider a prior Saint Helena Island property purchase and asked the committee to include a motion to forward the removal of Mrs. Anne Marie Tabernick as the council’s liaison to the Beaufort County Economic Development Board.
S5 said the Economic Development Board had first voted overwhelmingly to support the Saint Helena Community Cultural and Market Center, then at a special call meeting voted unanimously not to support it, and asserted Mrs. Tabernick had "misrepresented this governing body" at the board meeting. S5 asked that the removal motion be placed on the agenda immediately following the originally posted items.
The chair (Unidentified Speaker S1) and other members discussed the request but ultimately approved the agenda "as it stands originally." No formal vote was recorded to amend the agenda or to forward a removal motion during the Feb. 17 committee meeting.
The transcript shows the allegation and the request were made and that council leadership and other members acknowledged the scheduling dispute, but the committee did not act on the proposed removal. The item can be revisited if formal action is placed on a future agenda.
