Trenton council reappoints planning commissioner, extends audit contract and approves disbursements

The Trenton City Council on Feb. 17 handled routine municipal business: it reappointed Bill Kaiser to the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals, accepted a resignation from the DDA, approved annual Michigan Municipal League dues and accepted court fines and financial reports.
The council reappointed Bill Kaiser to the Planning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals for terms expiring March 1, 2020; the roll‑call vote recorded six yes votes and one abstention (Mayor Rezeppa). The clerk announced the motion carried.
City Controller Miss Cooper presented a staff request to extend the agreement with audit firm Plant Moran PLLC to provide annual financial and single‑audit services for fiscal years ending June 30, 2026 through June 30, 2030. Cooper said Plant Moran’s familiarity with city operations has yielded efficient audits, timely completion and reasonable fees, and that the firm proposed a 3% annual fee increase over the extension period to address expanded audit requirements and inflation. The council moved, supported and approved the extension unanimously.
Councilman Benedetti moved to place on file fines, costs and fees submitted by the 30th District Court for January 2026 showing $4,595.68 received by the city. Council also approved Michigan Municipal League membership dues in the amount of $9,073 and accepted authorized disbursements dated Feb. 17, 2026 totaling $2,802,735.43 and the financial summary for Jan. 31, 2026. Several commission minutes and departmental monthly reports were placed on record.
Treasurer staff reminded residents taxes were due that night (payments accepted through 11:59 p.m.) and warned a 4% penalty applies after the deadline; unpaid taxes will roll to the county on March 3. Madam Clerk also noted the next regular council meeting will be Monday, March 2 at 7:00 p.m.
The council adjourned at 7:41 p.m.
