Council reviews broadband next phases, street grants and public-works plans
Summary
Council and staff reviewed remaining broadband technical funds, an estimated $700,000 for the next two broadband phases pending a TxSoft report, updates on OPWC and SORTA-funded street projects (including a $2.4M allocation for Adams and Jackson), and public-works programs like chipper service and pothole repairs.

Council members and village staff used the meeting to review several capital and infrastructure matters: broadband deployment, street-construction grants and public-works operations.
Interim Village Manager Chris Williams said he is awaiting a detailed report from Clifford Bailey of TxSoft about the next two phases of the village broadband plan and estimated that the next two phases would cost about $700,000 combined. "The next 2 phases will be about 700,000 to do both of them," he said. The presentation also noted $68,282 remaining from an earlier broadband setup intended for technical assistance and mapping; staff said they are pursuing additional grants to extend village-wide coverage.
On streets and infrastructure, the budget presentation identified OPWC and SORTA as funding sources. The council was shown a $2,400,000 allocation intended for construction work on Adams and Jackson streets (with smaller segments on Chester and McGee). Staff said engineering costs have been paid from the community impact grant where allowable, while SORTA funds are limited to construction activities.
Public Works reported ongoing pothole repairs, a planned monthly chipper program for yard debris, and planned plantings for parks with donated materials from the Cincinnati Zoo. Staff also noted grant-funded projects at Memorial Field—camera installation and a concession-stand construction grant of $294,000.
Council did not take separate votes on broadband or street projects during the meeting; staff were directed to return with specific TxSoft estimates and grant-sourcing options.
