Chief Nelson said the AED program will use an application process prioritizing smaller churches and government buildings without AEDs; selected groups must commit at least five people to training and to ongoing maintenance responsibilities such as battery replacement. On life packs, staff explained the current machines are 14 years old and near expected part‑life limits; the proposed replacements provide telemetry and ECG transmission to hospitals.
The board voted to accept the grants and proceed with procurement under national purchasing contracts; staff said they will continue to seek additional bids and will return to the board with implementation details.
