Senate recognizes Hawaiian Day; senators introduce visiting students and Office of Hawaiian Affairs trustees

The Senate paused routine business to recognize Hawaiian Day at the State Capitol and welcome visiting students, trustees and guests.
Senator Jarrett Keohokalole opened the introductions by thanking the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and its staff, naming trustees Keoni Souza, Brickwood Galutaria and Kalehiki Nakaka in the gallery. He invited colleagues to join the OHA event on the 4th Floor.
Keohokalole introduced the day's featured speaker, Riley Jose, praised her speech and introduced family and academic guests including Amy Jose and Professor Brenda Muchosky. He also introduced interns and staff from his office and asked the chamber to welcome them.
Other senators followed with introductions: Senator Kanuha introduced his nephew and other Kauai guests; Senator Inouye introduced students from Hilo and neighboring communities and named chaperones; Senator Richards and Senator Elefante introduced visitors from their districts. Members asked the gallery to hold applause until all guests were called.
Keohokalole encouraged student engagement, telling the speaker: "You should do scary things. You'll be happy after it's over." The exchanges were ceremonial and no legislative action was taken during the introductions.
