Commissioners approve routine budget transfers, hires and move to receive construction bids; Engineer and Sheriff present contract and grant items

Butler County commissioners on Nov. 18 approved a slate of routine financial and administrative items and advanced construction procurement steps.
Finance Director Dave McCormick summarized budget transfers and appropriations, noting requests including $60,000 for Planning & Zoning inspections and $181,020 for runway lighting materials at the regional airport. The board moved to approve the transfers and appropriations on the consent agenda.
Administration asked the board to authorize hiring Christopher Lehman as a building inspector at $33 per hour effective Dec. 3 and to approve commissioner travel to the County Commissioners Association of Ohio winter conference. Asset & purchasing staff asked permission to receive bids and bid bonds for big group 2 (core and shell) work on the Princeton Road campus consolidation project.
The county engineer recommended awarding the 2026 traffic signal maintenance contract to Security Fence Group Inc. (contract amount not to exceed $250,000). The sheriff’s office requested advertisement for uniform procurement and recommended award of an HVAC replacement project for the sheriff’s radio tower (not to exceed $89,880). The Sheriff also requested execution of a Victims of Crime Act grant ($49,690) with a local match of $12,422.50; that item appeared on the consent agenda.
