100 Women Who Care luncheon to award pooled grants March 5; finalists announced

Melissa Spurgeon, the Community Foundation’s new CEO, and Haley Fortune, community impact manager, discussed the 100 Women Who Care luncheon set for Thursday, March 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 200 South Church Street in Jackson.
Spurgeon described the program as a giving circle in which members donate (the traditional target level is $100 per member) and vote for a grantee during the luncheon. She said last year’s event resulted in $17,000 in awards split into a $6,000 and an $11,000 grant, and organizers are currently about $10,000 toward this year’s fundraising target.
Organizers announced the finalists that will present five-minute pitches on March 5. Small-organization finalists are Carroll County Rescue Squad, Young Lives and Rotary Heart and Soul. Large-organization finalists are Hannah’s Hope, ASP for Recovery, and United Way of West Tennessee. Members in the room will vote to choose the grantee on the day of the luncheon.
Spurgeon said applications are accepted each January (Jan. 1–31) and that business sponsorship options are available to cover event costs so member donations go entirely to grantees. Tickets are sold via the organization’s website and social accounts; organizers directed interested participants to 100womenwesttn.org and the group’s social accounts for details.
The broadcast did not state the final grant recipient; winners will be announced at the March 5 luncheon.
