The Barnegat Township Board of Education recognized students across the district during its Upstander awards segment and presented winners in veteran-related essay contests.
Presenters described the Upstander program as a district-wide recognition of students who demonstrate leadership, accountability and support for their peers. Students called forward included high-school and elementary honorees; Barnegat High School student Jalen Hoffman was highlighted for leadership and community service tied to the school’s ROTC-related program. The board also presented Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy winners from the district; Eddie Rosa and Madison Montalvo were recognized in the Patriot’s Pen program and Catherine Warren was recognized for Voice of Democracy at the high-school level.
Superintendent Dr. Latwiss also introduced a Rotary Club representative who announced a $2,500 grant to stock caring closets across the district — sites that provide hygiene items and essentials to students in need.
