Elyria crews identify about 500 streetlights for repair; some to be replaced with LEDs by FirstEnergy

Safety Service Director Pajnowski told the Elyria City Council that city crews used sanitation routes to systematically identify out-of-service streetlights and compiled a master list of about 500 lights to submit to FirstEnergy.
"We identified about 500 lights and created the report necessary to submit them to FirstEnergy," Pajnowski said. He added that a new FirstEnergy representative informed the city some of the identified fixtures will be replaced with LEDs and that the projected timeframe for repairs is about three months.
City staff said they organized two-person crews to inspect routes after street lights came on and that the master list will enable FirstEnergy to prioritize replacements. Council did not record a formal vote on this update; it was presented as an operational report.
What’s next: the city will coordinate with FirstEnergy on replacement scheduling; residents concerned about specific outages are advised to report locations to the city so they can be matched to the submitted list.
