Jackson County Veterans Affairs reports outreach activity, tracks state bills

Ruth said the office logged roughly 290 interactions in the reporting window, including phone calls, emails and in-person visits, and listed a range of case actions — decisions rendered, remands to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, supplemental claims and updates. She reported that 373 veterans received live compensation totaling about $779,523, with additional pension and survivor payments noted for other recipients.
Ruth outlined outreach plans including a drive-in movie event set for May 28 and coordination with the VFW and local groups on senior-expo support. She said the office is pursuing small outreach purchases from state allocation funds (for example, a branded tablecloth and canopy for outdoor events).
On legislation, Ruth said she has been tracking several bills that affect veterans services and identified one entry in the transcript as 'Senate file 228,' which had been referred to the appropriations committee as of her update. She said some proposed measures could be beneficial but that questions remain and the office will continue monitoring the bills.
Supervisors praised the office's outreach and encouraged continued tracking and communication with state partners. The board asked staff to verify any legislative impacts and to continue supporting outreach logistics.
The Board accepted the Veterans Affairs Commission minutes later in the meeting and complimented the commission for producing more informative minutes.
